ACCOUNTABILITY & TRANSPARENCY?

One of the main objectives of all Australian Government systems is the aim to show accountability and transparency. This term has been thrown around within many publications, however is the Government actually doing anything about this?

I personally would say no, not really. Yes, they have measures in place to show themselves as transparent and accountable for their actions, but I don't think any of these relate to the public. I don't see politicians hugging babies, and talking in stuffy function halls as a positive way to show oneself as transparent or relatable.

Is hugging babies really the way to win the votes of the public? I highly doubt it!

I do think these two factors are extremely important, but with the way parliament works today, they will not be achieved.

I see politicians debating in red and green rooms, and having stupid arguments based upon purely saying the opposite to what the other side says. Parliament is a theatre; a production; a stage - I feel as if they are not really working in the interest of the people at all.

Parliament needs a way to connect with the people; and being locked away in some fancy building in Canberra (an isolated, soulless city) is not the answer. Connections need to be made. Nodes should be located across Australia for easy access to the public, and to information. Relationships need to be built, and to stay consistent. Accessibility will create transparency and accountability.
