WHAT IS A CAPITAL CITY?

A capital city is the area of a country, province, region or state regarded as enjoying primary status, and most commonly encompasses the offices and meeting places of the government. Capital cities are frequently the largest city, and often a specialised city. Australia, along with Canada and Mexico displays capitals in all of its states, with one national capital (Canberra) used as a compromise between Melbourne and Sydney.
